That coaching session you did for us was amazing. Best training ever - activities, whiteboard work, feedback: the perfect blend of theory and practice. 10/10.

The teacher they rate highest

Often out of a long line of instructors.

Matt was the best instructor I've had. Really good at explaining concepts at a level we can understand, and providing practical, real-time, useful feedback. Really encouraging, while also constructive. Clearly cares a lot about his role as an instructor.

Jessie · 2026

Matt is brilliant. Best instructor out of the 6 I have had.

Lincoln · 2026

Matt Young has been the best teacher I've had so far and I would sign up for another class with him any day of the week.

Jackie · 2026

Best class I've taken so far. Matt was really clear and I felt like I learnt more in week one than a whole course previously taken.

Feedback that makes it click

Specific, kind, and immediately useful.

I don't think I've ever gone through so much feedback in my life that was so succinct and articulate. Immediately and thoroughly received - helped me improve the improv and really learn about myself. Like a mirror that's funny and helpful.

Aiya · 2020

Matt is clearly an improv nerd and his feedback was so helpful. He gave really specific feedback and made it clear when it applied to you in a kind and supportive way. He helped me bring emotion and connection into scenes in really natural ways.

Jane · 2023

Great feedback in a way that was well received. It felt constructive - helping improve the scene rather than "this was wrong" or "you should have done this".

Drew · 2022

He'd rarely interrupt mid-scene but give critical feedback at the end, giving us better flow. Always clear, always helpful. He'd also ask us to evaluate ourselves, which I found really helpful.

Safe enough to take big risks

The psychological safety that makes the fun possible.

◆ From a career educator

Matt is a fantastic teacher. His balance of sensitivity and humour means he knows just the right thing to say at the right time. His gentle style creates the psychological safety for students to take big risks. I've worked in education for 25 years - I'm speaking from experience.

Scott · Master of Education, 25 years teaching · 2026

Such an open, friendly and encouraging environment. It was so nice to see everyone willing to try out new silly things and be so supportive of each other.

Alice · 2021

Incredible for the amount of personal attention, detail and care he shows everyone in his classes. Absolutely recommend to anyone.

Audrey · 2023

Loved the energy and encouragement. I felt really comfortable to try new things on stage, and to speak my mind when I struggled.

Steve · 2023

Energy & fun

You leave better than you arrived.

Matt is an A+ instructor. Incredibly engaging, funny and thoughtful, and I'm in awe of how gracefully he navigates tricky class moments. His infectious energy always makes me leave feeling better than I entered. His classes are fun as hell.

Miles · 2022

Matt is a legend. His teaching style is relaxed and comfortable and really helped me settle into what could have been a stressy new experience. A great balance of learning-focused time and fun banter.

Tilda · 2022

The perfect balance of theory and practice, constantly challenging us in a constructive way. He brought so much positive energy and reminded us each week how much fun being silly could be.

Andrew · 2026

I loved how much he cared about each scene we were in - always super encouraging, brought everyone's energy up, and had insightful comments.

Stuart · 2021

More than comedy - the life stuff

Listening, confidence, and getting out of your own head.

It's kind of amazing how targeted this was at things I wanted to work on: get out of the house and around people, get out of my own head, be a better listener. Not only will you find a rad new hobby, you'll change your life.

Emma · 2022

I found it an incredibly valuable teacher of social dynamics, empathy and shared vulnerability with people from all walks. It teaches you a lot about yourself, in a way that's applicable across many relationships in life.

Hamid · 2023

My social confidence has increased and I now listen to people when I converse with them. It's given me more belief in myself and I'm less concerned about embarrassing myself.

Russell · 2022

Thank you for making a daunting thing feel so easy. I came to improve my public speaking and be comfortable in my space, and I feel like I achieved that.

Caitlin · 2022

Craft, care & the short and sweet

Prepared, intentional, and hard to forget.

Matt was astonishing. He came with a plan and executed it - he even had course materials. This was the best course I've done. Even when giving notes, he has a way of doing it so you feel like you suddenly understand the punchline of a joke.

Rob · 2026

I loved how responsive Matt's teaching was, and how he picked activities to extend or challenge our habits. It felt like really intentional pedagogy.

Brydie · 2026

I cannot recommend Matt enough. He makes improv so much fun and at the end of it all it transpires you learnt a whole bunch of stuff in the process. He's the real deal.

Rob · 2026

Matt is a natural teacher. Enough said!
